Balance Integrated Health celebrates first year…
MONTROSE, Colorado –Balance Integrated Health, a Montrose-based direct-care medical practice that serves the Montrose community, recently celebrated its first year, as well as earning five Best of the Valley Reader’s Choice Awards sponsored by the Montrose Press. Under the leadership of Dr. Melinda Marzolf, Balance Integrated Health was awarded the accolades for Best Family Practice, Best Physician Clinic and Best Women’s Clinic,. Additionally, Dr. Marzolf earned Best Women’s Health Physician and Best Physician – Montrose. Earlier this fall, Trina O’Brien of Montrose joined the staff as a health coach and patient administrative support.
“We are incredibly honored to receive these awards,” said Dr. Marzolf, who opened Balance Integrated Health in September 2024. “We thank the Montrose Press for sponsoring the awards and our clients for their support of our practice. This recognition is especially meaningful because we are celebrating the end of our first year.”
Along with Dr. Marzolf and O’Brien, the Balance Integrated Health staff includes Nichole VanDerwalker of Montrose, a registered nurse who has been with the practice since its inception.
“Trina is a great addition to our team,” said Dr. Marzolf. “She has a strong background in wellness coaching and education and healthy lifestyle advocacy, as well as experience with social media and other areas. I am sure our patients will enjoy learning and planning with her.”
O’Brien will support patients in learning lifestyle habits, identify and track goals, and adhering to care plans developed by Dr. Marzolf. She also will help with the practice’s social media and online presence, as well as assist with some administrative needs.
“I am looking forward to working with Dr. Marzolf,” said O’Brien, “and to getting to know each client and their needs. I enjoy working with people and helping them succeed in reaching their health goals. I am excited to become part of the Balance Integrated Health team and assist Dr. Marzolf in achieving the practice’s mission of using non-traditional and holistic methods with traditional medicine to benefit patients.”
“All three of us are focused on assisting, supporting and planning with our patients for their continued health and well-being,” said Dr. Marzolf. “Balance Integrated Health’s format allows us to dedicate the time and effort needed to help our patients with their health goals and journey. I am excited about how each of us offers different skills to help our patients’ health.”
Dr. Marzolf is an experienced physician who has training and certifications in family practice, lifestyle and functional medicine, as well as experience in geriatrics. She earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine. In 2023-24, Dr. Marzolf also was voted Best Physician in the Best of the Valley Awards.
VanDerwalker’s background includes a wide range of nursing skills and care, including patient assessment and general home health; hospital nursing, including medical, surgery, cardiology and orthopedics; hospice and palliative care; mental crisis center; and healthy living. She earned her Bachelor of Science in nursing at the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Services at the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs.
O’Brien’s previous experience includes serving as an educator and coach on wellness strategies, balancing motherhood and self-care, and developing initiatives to support women’s health; integrated therapeutic massage focused on chronic pain, injury recovery and stress relief; and emphasizing the importance of nutrition, exercise, positive mindset, as well as coaching and youth development. She earned her Master of Science in sports business and administration and Bachelor of Science in sports and recreation at Lynn University.
